Drug And Alcohol Detox Centers

Any thing that provides you comfort and without it you are unable to live or spend your time can be termed as addiction to that thing. Addiction to drugs is dangerous. It can destroy your life. However there are centers today that help you overcome this addiction.

The recovery program requires time. The longer the person has been taking drugs the longer will be the time of recovery. Drug or Alcohol detox centers are generally located in hospitals. However you can also hire these resources at your home as well, that is, and you can be treated at your home as well. There are other centers called standalone facilities, which contract out to other facilities.

There are many ways that can be used to treat a drug abusing person. However there are three main models used. They are:

  • Social method
  • Medical method
  • Rapid method

A social detox model is for people who are moderate drug abusers. These are people who are willing to give up the chemical dependencies and are willing to be detoxified.  These people don’t require any prescriptions or medication but are willing to give up drugs themselves. It is also not necessary that a person following a social detox method is supervised. The emphasis is on supporting each other to quit drugs. People following this model live with like-minded individuals and are supporting each other to quit drugs.

The medical model is for people who have been severely abusing drugs or are in bad shape or poor health and also who have some existing medical conditions. These people need medical intervention and require prescribed medications. A physician keeps a close eye on the person undergoing through this process. This process is necessary for severe abusers especially those who have sever alcoholism. Medical detox is also used on people who are addicted to prescribed medications.

Rapid detox model is for abusers with opiate addictions. The process is now in his 10th year of existence and is used on people who require special medications to cleanse person’s opiate receptors. The process can be completed in just 5-8 hours but requires greater care than the other two processes. The process is conducted in ICU under the supervision of an anesthesiologist and a physician. Other medications may also follow the process to help break the opiate addiction.

Other programs which are usually not followed include bio-physical treatment, faith-based detox and nutritional detox programs. Bio-physical treatment includes exercise, vitamins and sauna as a part of course. Faith-based model is closer to the social model but emphasizes on religious beliefs. The nutritional detox program includes nutritional supplements and megavitamin therapies which help you to achieve results.

The drug and alcohol detox centers usually provide only the services such as different programs to help a person achieve his goal of detoxification. They should also provide counseling so that people are more aware of the dangers that drug abuse pose. There are certain psychological and emotional distresses during the treatment. The detox centers should look to help people in this area as well.
